A Xunqueira Theatre Group

Los grupos de bachillerato 1ºB, 1ºC, 1ºD, 2ºA y 2ºB preparan durante las últimas semanas del presente curso 2009/2010 una versión abreviada de una pieza teatral de Steve Waters titulada On the Beach y una exposición en la biblioteca del centro.

En clase se lee la obra, cuyo tema central es claramente el cambio climático, y los alumnos eligen aquello en lo que les gustaría trabajar. Por ejemplo:

  • Scenery
  • Costumes
  • The river Thames and Thames Barriers
  • Thames and Art
  • Climate Change and Art at A Xunqueira

Una vez montada la exposición se presenta a tres grupos del 2º curso de ESO.

Por último, cada grupo entrega varios comentarios, entre los que se elige uno por clase:

1º B: Jorge Domínguez, Alejandro Couso, Bran Touriño
Our English teacher proposed this activity for the third term of the year.
The class was split up into groups. One of the groups would be responsible for acting “On the Beach” by Steve Waters.
The plot of the play is rather simple; it is a warning about possible floods due to global warning. Climate change is the theme A Xunqueira 1 together with three European schools, our partners of a Comenius Project, have been working on for the last two years.

1º C: Alberto Peón, Laura Blanco, Mar Duarte
A Xunqueira I High School students were working on a play titled “On the Beach” in collaboration with our English teacher, Carmina. The job was divided. While some students were rehearsing the performance, the others were looking for information to do a presentation of the play.
This presentation consisted of ten exhibition panels dealing with different topics about the play, like the life of the author, the plot, vocabulary, geographical location, costume, scenery, drawings, information about the Thames, photos about the performers and about natural disasters.
We think this activity was very interesting because it was a new, funny experience to work on for the last month of the year.

1º D: Beatriz Rodríguez, Rosa Alegre, Irene Vites
While the performers are rehearsing, the other students are working on different aspects related to the play “On the Beach”: writer, costume, vocabulary, scenery, etc.
Furthermore, we learnt a bit about climate change, global warming, Comenius, Nostradamus, Thames Barriers, natural disasters such as: tornadoes, hurricanes, fires, floods, volcanoes and so on.

Entretanto, actores y actrices van perfilando su papel en los ensayos, que quedan reflejados en un vídeo del “making off”.
